Witches
Today is October 12th
Today’s film is 1996’s The Craft
The Craft is yin to The Covenant‘s yang (Our film from the 4th). They are either the same or opposite in so many ways. The Covenant features male witches, The Craft female. The Covenant takes place in New England, The Craft in Los Angeles. An unusually rainy/stormy Los Angeles. They both feature a coven being completed by a new kid at school. They both feature a swim team (remind me, do witches float or sink?). The shower scene in The Covenant is full of skin and conflict and while I won’t complain I’m not sure it added anything to the plot. The Craft features locker room / shower scenes that are part of the plot and focus on revenge instead of skin. The Covenant makes little sense and has only one witch with any real story. The Craft is a pretty good story (even if predictable), each witch has a purpose in the story and a story of her own. The Covenant was a highly polished film whose biggest attribute is effects and sex appeal. The Craft was a sleeper hit and cult classic that 90s kids loved. The Covenant is a bad film you can allow yourself to enjoy. The Craft is a great film you can quote on social media with love.
Who didn’t play light as a feather stiff as a board after watching this?
