2018 31 Days of Scary Movies – October 18 – A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge

#ScaredButNotStraight

Today is October 18th

Today’s film is 1985’s A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge

A Nightmare on Elm Street spawned an impressive list of sequels, cross-overs, a 2010 remake and even an anthology TV show – and it’s all worth checking out! All this Freddy is in large part the reason NewLine was more than just a blip. If you are a Freddy fan I highly recommend watching the documentary Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy (2010).

But in all this there is one installment that doesn’t seem to fit in with the others – a black sheep if you will. Actually it’s more of a pink sheep.

A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge is by far the most different of the sequels. Nancy isn’t in it, instead our hero is a guy who moves into her home shortly after the events of the first film. Freddy also leaves the dream world to crash a pool party. And then there is the gay subtext.

Our hero is played by a gay actor. Our hero seems to have very little interest in his female friend – his bully-turned-buddy however… maybe that’s all in my head but I don’t seem to be alone and it doesn’t end there. Gay leather bar? Yup. Why? I don’t know, makes for a great way to bump into your gym teacher though. Shower scenes? Yup, locker room showers murder scene to boot. There is also an inexplicable scene were he dances alone in his room complete with some phallic pop-gun-action and some drawer closing twerking.

I’ll leave it up to you to decide on your own – but just for fun try counting how many times something at least a little gay happens.

I can’t help but love this misfit abomination.
